Root Cause Analysis Training: Options to consider

by Mark on March 28, 2009

Many companies contact us inquiring about root cause analysis training.  A common question is regarding who needs to be trained. Our philosophy has always been that its not about how many people be trained, but rather that the people trained are trained effectively.  ThinkReliability’s most popular workshop is the Two-day Cause Mapping workshop.  We encourage companies to make their first workshop a two-day to train facilitators.  Once the two-day workshop has been delivered and people are utilizing the process, other workshops can be presented to compliment the organization’s overall plan.  Each company’s specific goals dictate the best approach for them.

Facilitators are encouraged to extend their Two-Day Cause Mapping training to include advanced training in documentation skills utilizing Microsoft Excel.  The four hour workshop shows facilitators many tips and shortcuts for using Excel to capture and share their Cause Maps.

We recommend that the people closest to the work that will be participating in incident investigations (root cause analysis facilitations) attend an Introductory Cause Mapping Workshop at a minimum.  This will familiarize them with the process and give them the tools necessary to be an active participant.

Although the majority of our training is conducted in-house at the client’s site, we also offer open-enrollment root cause analysis training in various cities.  Check out the website for the most up-to-date dates and locations.
